Google is putting its hand in its pocket to contribute to the European Media and Information Fund.

The American giant will release $ 25 million over five years to participate in the financing of this fund.

The company warns, however, that it "will not be involved in any decision-making", reports

The European Media and Information Fund was created by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the European University Institute.

Its mission is to support projects to strengthen the digital skills of European citizens.

The aim is to fight against disinformation on European soil in the broad sense, therefore by including the United Kingdom, Norway and Switzerland, and to promote the verification of information to fight against fake news.

Fact-checking tools

The fund will very soon welcome proposals from academics, non-profit organizations and European publishers.

They will contribute their ideas to strengthen digital culture by proposing initiatives and tools to advance in the field of verification of facts and information propagated on the Internet.

Google will finance the fund, but will keep its distance from decisions.

The American firm is the first to intervene in the financing and it invites other companies to follow the example, specifies the specialized media.
