LEGO: a kit of 2,354 pieces in tribute to NASA -

Geeko

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the first launch of an American space shuttle in space, Lego has joined forces with NASA to market a complete kit of the space shuttle Discovery.

The latter is the third American space shuttle to have been successfully launched into space.

It has indeed succeeded in all of its launches and returns to Earth, unlike Columbia and Challenger, the first two American space shuttles which disintegrated on their return to Earth - in 2003 for Columbia and in 1986 for Challenger. .

The Discovery Kit is Lego's most ambitious space shuttle model.

It has 2,354 pieces in fact.

By comparison, the ISS kit, the International Space Station, has only 864 of them. When completed, Space Shuttle Discovery is 21 centimeters high, 54 centimeters long and 35 centimeters wide.

Two legs are also included in the Lego box.

In detail

The reproduction of the Discovery shuttle forced Lego to develop three new types of parts;

a windshield, a hold and 108 pieces of lacquered silver needed for certain details of the vessel.

The designers made sure to develop this kit as realistically as possible to allow Lego fans to immerse themselves inside the space device.

LEego and space exploration enthusiasts will certainly be delighted to see that the cargo hold and cockpit open, that the shuttle has a retractable landing gear, space arm and five seats for the crew. .

The kit also includes a reproduction of the Hubble telescope that the Discovery shuttle put into orbit in 1990. Available from April 1, the Lego Discovery kit will retail for $ 179.99.
