The imprisonment sentence has been confirmed for the representative of a North Korean refugee group who forcibly harassed a female refugee (residents who fled from North Korea).

According to the legal community today (25th), the Supreme Court affirmed a court trial that dismissed the appeal of Mr. A, the head of the North Korean defector group, and sentenced him to 10 months in prison on the 19th.

On March 25, 2019, Mr. A was handed over to trial at his North Korean refugee organization's office in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul on charges of assaulting victim B, touching his body and kissing victim B.

Mr. B claims that he was raped by Inspector C of the Seocho Police Station in Seoul, who is in charge of supporting refugees.

The group represented by Mr. A is supporting the settlement of refugees in Korean society, and Mr. B has also worked for the group for several months in the past. In response, Mr. A falsely claimed that he was not sexually harassed in the first trial, and that Mr. B was dissatisfied after being fired from the group and was innocent.

However, in September last year, the first trial court admitted that Mr. A was accused of forcibly harassing him, sentenced him to 10 months in prison and imprisoned him in court. It also ordered the completion of the 80-hour sexual violence treatment program and restrictions on employment at child and youth institutions and welfare facilities for the disabled for the next five years.

Mr. A appealed, but the second trial court dismissed it, saying, "There are no false positives and improper sentencing in the first trial decision."
