An inmate, imprisoned in a solitary confinement in the Seoul East Detention Center, died earlier this month after losing consciousness, and the Ministry of Justice began investigating the death.

The families of the inmates who died have sued the police for those involved in the detention center, claiming that the detention center's actions were insufficient.

According to the Ministry of Justice, about 6:30 am on the 8th, Im Mo (48), an undecided detainee in the Eastern Detention Center, was found lying prone with weak breathing and consciousness.

The detention center carried out emergency measures such as CPR and evacuated Mr. Lim to a hospital designated by the detention center, but Mr. Lim died.

The Ministry of Justice explained that the autopsy of Mr. Lim's body revealed that there was a verbal finding from the autopsy doctor that "old subdural hemorrhage and coronary artery hardening are severe."

However, it was expected that it would take more than a month for the final autopsy report to come out.

As a result of checking the records of the closed circuit (CC) TV in the detention center, Lim received six pills from the staff the day before his death, and afterwards, he was in a prone position and suffered a complaint.

The detention center claimed that it was also a problem that the autopsy was conducted without the consent of the bereaved.

The Ministry of Justice said, "The deceased showed a mental problem after admission, and according to the results of the specialist's treatment, he was prescribed psychiatric medicine and took it steadily." I explained.

In addition, "In a normal case, autopsy is conducted according to the warrant issued by the court and the prosecution's investigation command regardless of the consent of the survivors." The bereaved family was notified, but the family member's intention to participate has not been communicated.”

The Ministry of Justice said it had ordered an investigation by the Seoul Regional Correctional Service to clarify the case of Mr. Lim's death.

In addition, it is the position that we will take strict measures if problems are revealed by looking at the working conditions of employees at the time.
