The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it has caught and demolished 161 private repeaters used in voice phishing crimes in 52 locations across the country in intensive crackdowns from the 16th of last month to the 10th of last month.

According to the police, a private repeater is used to make it look like a domestic number such as '010' by falsifying the display number of an Internet phone made from abroad.

It was investigated that the voice phishing organization found a place to install a repeater, saying that it would pay 150,000 to 200,000 won a month if it puts out an advertisement such as'Internet Monitoring Side Job', and if the machine was installed in a residential or vacant room.

The police installed and managed private repeaters and arrested one person who collected cash on charges of violating the Telecommunications Business Act or fraud, and arrested 12 people involved in the installation.

In addition, 203 SIM chips used in the crime, 7 home cameras, 25 cannon phones, and 1 laptop were also confiscated.

Choi Jong-hyuk, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's investigation department, said, "Recently, there is an increasing number of cases where private repeaters have been installed at home in the name of part-time jobs and are being investigated as they may be used for voice phishing crimes." .
