The social network has just announced that it will put in place new measures to supervise groups on its platform.

The latter are indeed regularly the object of criticism whether it is for racist publications, incitement to hatred and violence or for the sharing of false information.

From now on, groups that violate Facebook's Community Standards will receive a graduated response from the social network, with an outright banning of the group from repeated recidivism.

In its press release, Facebook indicates that the moderation rules relating to groups will be strengthened and toughened.

One way for the social network to make its platform safer and more enjoyable for all users.

The new measures aim "to fight against the dissemination of harmful content, such as hate speech or false information.

"

Graduated responses

Groups that violate the standards of the social network community will have their visibility reduced.

They will rank less well in search results and will no longer be recommended by Facebook.

They will only be able to send a limited number of invitations, and the posts of these groups will be less visible on the newsfeed of people who are members of them.

Administrators and moderators of groups with a significant number of users who have already broken platform rules will need to approve their new posts for 30 days.

"If an administrator repeatedly approves content that violates our rules, we will remove the entire group," Facebook already warns.

The social network also indicates that members who have violated its rules several times will no longer be able to post or comment on content in any group for a time.

He will also not be able to invite other members or create a new group.

In the event of repeated infringements, Facebook gives itself the right to purely and simply delete the groups at fault, but also the accounts of the users concerned.

Facebook will also ensure that each group has at least one active administrator in order to better supervise discussions and posts on groups.

The proliferation of fake news regarding the coronavirus, pandemic and vaccines on the platform over the past year has most certainly prompted Facebook to implement these new measures.

For months, the social network has been trying to remove false information circulating about these subjects.

The US presidential elections also resulted in a lot of overflow and abuse on Facebook which decided to act and suppress the US anti-government groups.
