Competition between different mapping and GPS applications is fierce.

In this situation, Google Maps regularly adds new features to its service in order to stand out.

Latest innovation: a tool called “missing roads”.

The latter will allow everyone to inform the ways and paths that do not yet exist on the application, explained the Mountain View firm on Thursday on its blog, reports 01net.

Each change subject to validation

This new functionality will be accessible through the Google Maps web application.

Thanks to this tool, users will be able to indicate missing roads but also modify the traffic conditions on already existing lanes in order to update one-way streets, prohibited directions or street names.

Each change proposed by users will be subject to validation and will only appear after verification.

The “missing roads” tool will be deployed in the coming weeks in more than 80 countries, including France.

At the same time, Google will allow Internet users to post their own photos for certain places and have access to photos shared by others.

One way for Google Maps to leave its GPS function to become closer to the social network.
