A major fire broke out overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday on the OVH Cloud site in Strasbourg.

As the company specializes in hosting computer data, many French websites are temporarily unavailable this Wednesday morning.

A fire broke out overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday in Strasbourg on the site of the OVHcloud company, specializing in computer servers.

It has since been "circumscribed", the Bas-Rhin prefecture announced on Wednesday morning.

But since then, many French websites have been unavailable.

101 firefighters mobilized

The fire broke out around one in the morning in the Port du Rhin district, east of the Alsatian capital, not far from the German border, and mobilized 101 firefighters and 43 vehicles.

"Thanks to a strong mobilization of firefighters, the disaster on the site was contained," announced the prefecture in a press release shortly before 7:00 am.

Operational resources have also been mobilized by the German authorities.

The prefecture specified that the site, of type "data-center" was not classified Seveso, contrary to what it had announced at first.

She said no toxic pollution had been detected, despite the large plume of smoke.

Several inaccessible websites

In addition, this company being a computer data manager, the fire made many French websites unavailable, as evidenced by the tweets posted Wednesday morning.

Among them, the government site data.gouv.fr, those of the Colmar or Saverne tourist office.

Our teams are mobilized to restore service as quickly as possible.
