Rumors that a large amount of gold bars are buried in the middle of downtown Iksan City, Jeollabuk-do are spreading rapidly in the local community.

Today (8th), according to the Iksan Police Station, there is a rumor that 2 tons of gold bars are buried in the basement of an old Japanese farm warehouse in Joohyeon-dong, which was recently designated as a nationally registered cultural property.

Applying the domestic gold market today, the rumored gold bullion price reaches 124 billion won.

The rumors of the burial of gold bars have recently emerged in earnest as the police shared the content with local governments, etc., that'there may be attempts to damage cultural properties due to rumors floating around, so management and supervision are necessary.'

The police explained that just as a North Korean defector in 2012 issued an excavation permit saying, "There are a lot of gold bars buried in Donghwa Temple in Daegu," the police explained that similar attempts could be made in Iksan, a groundless snow.

The police believe that this case will also end in a tumult, just like the'Donghwasa gold bullion burial', which ended in a hepning due to a failure to excavate.

An official from the Iksan Police Station said, "It was only shared with the local government on the management of cultural properties, but the contents were erroneous and it seems to have spread greatly," he said. "There is no official confirmation of this rumor so far."

He added, "We plan to severely punish acts that attempt to damage cultural properties or threaten public welfare on the basis of unfounded rumors," he added.
