On March 6, 1986, the Soviet interplanetary station "Vega-1" approached Halley's comet as close as possible, conducted studies of this celestial body and sent their results to Earth. The work was part of the Venus-Halley project, in which scientists from ten countries took part. Within its framework, the first ever observations of the cometary nucleus as a spatially resolved object were made, cometary organic matter was discovered, and unique studies were carried out in the atmosphere of Venus.
