The planet Mars has a new inhabitant, the Perseverance rover.

This robot, launched in July 2020, landed on February 18 on the Red Planet as part of NASA's Mars 2020 mission.

The landing of the device was followed by a large number of people on the web thanks to the live of NASA.

A historic moment which subsequently gave rise to a sort of treasure hunt.

NASA has in fact pushed Internet users to search for clues and elements hidden in the video of the landing of the device.

"Sometimes, we leave messages in our work in the hope that others will find them," said one of the NASA experts during the broadcast of the landing video of the device.

"So we invite you all to try your luck and submit your proposals to us."

Obviously, it did not take more for astronomy enthusiasts to look at the video to analyze the smallest details.

And it didn't take long for the hidden message to be discovered.

Grandiose things

The rover's parachute was indeed hiding a coded message that was deciphered in just a few hours.

The red and white stripes of the parachute canvas hid the phrase “Dare Mighty Things” in binary code, NASA's unofficial slogan.

The parachute canvas also hid geographic coordinates that correspond to the location of NASA's Jet Propulsion laboratory.

But that's not the only Perseverance easter egg.

The most observant will have spotted a "family photo" on the device.

A plaque which indeed represents the 5 NASA rovers on Mars.

The mission of the Perseverance rover is to recover several soil samples from Mars and put them together at a specific location so that another device can recover them and bring them back to Earth for analysis.

According to NASA's agenda, this will not happen until 2031, subject to funding for the mission.
