Residents gathered on the'sea' were caught avoiding the guidelines for banning private gatherings with more than 5 people for the prevention of coronavirus infection-19 (Corona 19).

The Gyeongnam Tongyeong Maritime Police Department announced on the 22nd that it is investigating nine people, including 57-year-old A, on charges of gambling with a'raft' floating on the sea.

They set up tents on a raft off the coast of Gwangdo-myeon, Tongyeong at about 8:30 pm on the 21st, and while doing go-stops, they were caught by the coast guard where they were dispatched after receiving a report from the residents that "a lot of people are gathered on the raft."

The coast guard confiscated the stake after confirming that a total of 9 people were gathered at the site. The seizure amount was confirmed to be between 300,000 and 400,000 won.

The police applied not only gambling charges against them, but also charged with violating the Infectious Disease Prevention Act, which violated the guidelines for banning private gatherings of five or more people. However, violations of the quarantine regulations are subject to administrative disposition, not criminal penalties, and Tongyeong City Hall will impose fines on them.

An official from the Tongyeong Coast Guard said, "It is an action that must be severely punished for a group of people to gamble while all the people are struggling to respond to Corona 19."
