27-year-old Jang Deok-jun, who worked at Coupang, was found dead in a bathtub after returning home from a night shift last October.

Jang's parents claimed to be overworked, but the company insisted that they were not overworked, saying that they worked 44 hours a week.

However, according to our interview, it was confirmed that Jang worked for over 60 hours in the last week before his death.

Contrary to the company's claims, even young people suffered from hard labor that was difficult to bear.

First, this is the exclusive report by Hong Young-jae.

[Sung-Hwan Um/Executive Director of Coupang Full Millment Service (Last October): (But why did you release the press release saying that you are not overworked? How did you judge?)

Coupang executives who attended last year's national audit did not endorse the company's responsibility for the death of Jang Deok-jun.

But last week, the Labor Welfare Corporation concluded that an industrial accident was correct.

When we obtained and analyzed the investigation report, it turned out that Coupang made false claims and evaded responsibility.

When the overwork was alleged, Coupang confronted that there was no legal problem, saying that Jang's average working hours was 44 hours per week.

For night shifts, 30% of the day should be added to calculate the working hours.

Jang worked late at night every time from 7 pm to 4 am the next day for 16 months after joining the company.

In the investigation report, he suffered a long working period of 62 hours and 10 minutes, 6 days a week for the last week before he died.

[Park Mi-suk/late Jang Deok-jun's mother: It’s like this if you look at the officially released data, but there was not more than 40 hours a week.

When I say this, I can't explain how.]

Even after looking at the last three months, I worked on average over 58 hours per week, and I only had an hour off.

Poor workplace conditions were also pointed out.

Since July of last year, the day when the maximum temperature in Chilgok, Gyeongbuk, where Jang worked was over 30 degrees, lasted for nearly two weeks.

However, it turned out that there was no overall air conditioning facility in the distribution center.
