It has been confirmed that the Ministry of Justice has notified Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong of the restriction on employment.
The Prosecutors' Office of the Ministry of Justice informed Vice-Chairman Lee yesterday (15th) that the Vice-Chairman Lee was selected as a candidate for employment restrictions.
This is due to the fact that Vice-Chairman Lee was sentenced to two years and six months in prison in the case of the Gukjeong Nongdan case at the remand court hearing held at the Seoul High Court on the 18th of last month.
According to the Certain Economic Crimes Weighted Penalty Act, if a person commits embezzlement or malpractice of 500 million won or more, employment is restricted for five years from the time the sentence was executed.
Accordingly, the Prosecutors' Office of the Ministry of Justice went through a screening process and concluded that Vice Chairman Lee was subject to employment restrictions.
It is reported that the notification of the restriction of employment was made through mail service.
Vice-Chairman Lee may be required to drop his position as Vice-Chairman in the future, but there remains a procedure for requesting a review by the Ministry of Justice for Lee to approve employment.
Previously, Vice-Chairman Lee was sentenced to two years and six months in prison for bribing former President Park Geun-hye and Choi Seo-won, a non-seon-seed senior, for bribes of 8.6 billion won.
