• HUMOR Interview with Dani Rovira for his monologue 'Hate' on Netflix

  • STREAMING. 7 series you will want to see in February

In

Savvy

nothing it is black or white.

In each of the 7 chapters of this

Movistar + series

, its protagonists laugh, cry, suffer and, above all, dream of being free.

After

escaping from a psychiatric center

, five boys decide to live their lives and leave behind all the prohibitions that have marked and exhausted them physically and, above all, mentally in recent years.

And they are young.

A LITERARY SUCCESS

What I'll tell you when I see you again

is a

novel by Albert Espinosa

published in 2017. In this book, a father and son go on a desperate search together that leads them to confront their past.

In the series

Los espabilado

the screenwriter and creator Espinosa has changed the plot quite a bit, expanding the main characters but

maintaining the essence of the story.

Albert Espinosa, in the filming of the series.

An initiatory journey

in which camaraderie, solidarity and sincerity are now run by a unique group of boys (led by

Álvaro Requena, Marco Sanz, Sara Manzano, Aitor Valadés and Héctor Pérez

) who have mental problems but they are very lucid in their way of acting.

And they do not hurt or pretend.

On the other side we find adult characters (like those played by

Alex Brendemühl

and

Miki Esparbé

) who seek them out to confine them back to the center.

In the case of Izan, the character played by Esparbé, his way of thinking varies as the episodes progress.

In their adventure, 'the hustlers' steal cars and travel by train.

OUT OF TOPICS

Albert Espinosa

has always tried to get away from clichés in his creations.

He, who has overcome

cancer and several complicated operations

, has always taken risks.

Whether they were series (

Summer Grandmother

,

Red Bracelets

) or feature films (

Your life in 65 '

,

It will be that no one is perfect

or

Heroes

).

In

Los espabilado

you hear words like crazy, normal or moronic.

And, although sometimes they sound forced, the

dialogues lead to reflection and move away from the topics

that we have seen so many times on television and in the cinema.

Without falling into the sweetness

, the series talks about mental illness, heartbreak, existential crisis, loneliness and even harassment of minors.

An explosive cocktail dosed in

episodes that do not exceed 25 minutes

.

And that minors (maybe accompanied by adults who guide them) should see to know what are the dangers to which they are exposed.

The success of

Pulseras rojas

, on TV3, is one of the great guarantees that Espinosa has and that the Movistar + platform has been able to take advantage of for

a different series.

'The smart guys' skip the rules to get their desired freedom.

EMOTIONS TO THE LIMIT

When the boys (Mickey L'Angelo, Guada, Yeray, Lucas and Samuel) discover 'their stories', the series reaches

its best moments.

Among others, a scene that takes place in the room with a bed full of coats, another that takes place in a swimming pool and another that takes place at a party in which 'the savvy' sneak in.

Dramatic moments

that those responsible for the series have solved well, accompanying the situation with the notes of an exciting soundtrack.

And, if we refer to the musical theme, we should highlight the participation of

Alfred García

.

The young singer from Prat de Llobregat signs

Los espabilados

, a song that opens each of the seven episodes.

A party turns into one of the most dramatic moments in the series.

A SINGULAR ORIGIN

Albert Espinosa has clarified that

the idea

of

Los espabilados

comes from afar

.

As far back as that moment when, as a child, he spent a very

long time in the hospital

after being detected cancer.

In the silver above, Espinosa knew that there were other kids with mental problems who called themselves 'the smart ones'.

At the beginning of the first chapter, a label indicates that "This series is

dedicated to the struggle of so many children unjustly locked up in the world

.

"

All a declaration of intentions of the author.

And, incidentally, a message to the authorities that, according to Espinosa, are holding minors because of some

'spoiled adult',

as the author assures.
