Facebook Messenger continues to grow.

The messaging application formerly reserved for users of the social network is now available in virtual reality (VR) for people with an Oculus Quest or Oculus Quest 2 headset, reports TechCrunch, relayed by Presse-Citron.

The two Facebook entities announced the news on Tuesday on their respective blogs.

The new update of Oculus headsets will allow this new functionality to be integrated as of this week.

Only users who have entered their Facebook credentials on their device will be able to benefit from it.

Unchanged confidentiality

“We want people to be able to reach their friends and family as easily as possible using virtual reality,” Oculus said.

The Facebook subsidiary is convinced of the power of VR “as a social platform”.

The Oculus version of Messenger will not change any of the privacy settings already selected.

It will be possible from this dedicated application to converse with any messaging user, including those who do not have virtual reality headsets.

The update is coming

Oculus specifies in his blog that it is possible to write messages “by typing them in VR” or by “selecting a trigger for a pre-written conversation”.

A voice recognition system can also be used.

The company has yet to roll out its update everywhere.

It may take a few days for your Oculus Quest or Oculus Quest 2 headset to allow you to exchange messages using this technology.
