Two people who had been imprisoned for 21 years after being convicted of the murder case along the Nakdong River were found acquitted at retrial.

Those who were freed after 31 years of the incident demanded a sincere apology from the police who tortured them.

In 1991, 33-year-old Jang Dong-ik, an ordinary head of the household and a first-class blind man, has changed his life.

He and his friend, 30-year-old Choi In-cheol, were taken to the police, and they were accused of the murder of the Nakdong Riverside rape that occurred a year and 10 months ago.

The two appealed to the prosecution and the court of false confession by police torture, but the Supreme Court sentenced them to life imprisonment.

After 21 years of unfair imprisonment, he was released as a model prisoner.

In 2019, as the prosecution's past son-in-law confirmed the circumstances of torture, the debate on retrial quickly began, and a decision was made to commence retrial last year.

And finally, a year later, the court found both men innocent.

The court apologized for failing to serve as the last bastion of human rights, acknowledging that the confession of torture and cruelty was not capable of evidence.

[Jang Dong-ik/63 years old (33 years old at the time of arrest): (Accompanied by the police) My 33-year-old daughter was 2 years old when I left the house.

My wife was 29 and my daughter turned 24 and I came out at 55.]

[Choi In-cheol/59 years old (30 years old at the time of arrest): I couldn't sleep for a few days.

I'm glad...

Because I think I'm

not being

framed.]

Park Joon-young, a lawyer who specializes in retrial, who led the innocence, said that he would claim national compensation for torture police officers.

From the investigation of the police and prosecution to the final judgment of the court, the weight of the task left is still heavy, given that state agencies have failed to protect them.
