We tested the Xiaomi Mi Watch Life activity watch -

20 minutes

  • The pandemic due to Covid-19 requires us to be more sedentary and less physical activity.

  • With its Mi Watch Lite sold for 69 euros, Xiaomi offers a simple connected tocante to keep a close eye on its shape.

  • If it is not customizable with third-party applications, the Mi Watch Lite will be able to suit most, except the great sportsmen.

Keeping the shape, not the shapes.

The health crisis due to Covid-19 pushes us to become more sedentary and often neglect our health in spite of ourselves.

For many it is not just about extra pounds, but also about a form that slowly deteriorates from lack of activity.

Xiaomi's new Mi Watch Lite connected watch offers a real toolkit to help us keep a watchful eye on our physical activity, at a lower cost.

Besides its low price, what are its arguments to seduce?

The verdict of "20 Minutes" after a week of testing.

The Mi Watch Lite available in three colors.

- XIAOMI

A strange resemblance ...

On the wrist, it's the Apple Watch all spat.

But if, like many connected watches, Xiaomi's Mi Watch Lite cultivates a resemblance to the firm's apple tocante, its functionalities differ.

Compatible with Android and iOS, the Mi Watch Lite is quite sober in appearance.

Measuring 41 x 35 x 11.9 mm for 35 grams, it has a 1.4 inch LCD screen (320 x 320 pixels).

Waterproof (up to 50 meters), the watch is weighted with a heart rate monitor sensor, an on-board GPS and even an altimeter.

Enough to quantify many physical activities.

Eleven training modes are thus integrated.

We were able to test the Mi Watch Lite on a mountain bike course, as well as during various hiking trips.

The watch is responsive and the data measured generally in phase with that of an Apple Watch worn on the opposite wrist.

The Mi Watch Lite cultivates a funny resemblance to the Apple Watch.

Before training, you just have to press the side button, choose the desired activity and validate your choice.

Here, one of the advantages of the Mi Watch Lite is that there is no need to play sports with your smartphone on you: the GPS is on board.

On the other hand, if running or cycling to music tempts you, the watch will not be able to embed your playlists.

But it is able to control the music application open on your smartphone.

Day to day exercises

Failing to be sporty, you can use the Mi Watch Lite on a daily basis as a simple activity watch.

Its many personalization screens help you make it your own.

Currently in 100% teleworking, we have favored a screen background indicating in addition to the time, the number of our daily steps.

Ideal, to go beyond just 3000 steps / day (due to our confinement) and stimulate yourself to walk around the block just before curfew.

Goal: try to get closer to the 10,000 steps / days recommended by the World Health Organization to keep in shape!

Not always easy.

The Mi Watch Lite is launched at 69 euros.

- XIAOMI

We regret that the Mi Watch Lite is also not able to sound inactivity alerts to invite us to move when we have been still too long.

Many smartwatches and activity trackers do, however.

And if breathing exercises to de-stress are offered, they are never suggested by the tocante (like the Apple Watch does), you have to remember to activate them manually.

In the meantime, notifications from our smartphone are welcome.

By keeping the watch on our wrist 24 hours a day, we were also able to monitor the quality of our sleep and find that our nights remained fairly restful with a good dose of daily deep sleep.

Phew!

All data is compiled by day / week / month by the Xiaomi Wear Lite app.

Limited functions however

Sold for 69 euros, four times cheaper than the Apple Watch SE, the Mi Watch Lite remains a basic watch.

Impossible to customize with third-party applications, it remains simple in its use and can meet fairly conventional needs.

An instant view of the day's activity.

- XIAOMI

And bonus: its good autonomy makes its use less intrusive: a simple weekly recharge in normal use is sufficient, as we have seen.

Undoubtedly insufficient for true sportsmen who will prefer a more accomplished watch like the new Garmin Venu SQ for example (sold 189 euros), the Mi Watch Lite does perfectly "the job" on a daily basis to self-quantify and fight against the 'immobility.

But also to note that it is high time that we can resume a normal activity.
