The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced today (25th) that it is pushing ahead with measures to recognize non-marriage or living together as a family.

The Ministry of Leisure and Home Affairs announced a plan to guarantee a diverse family composition through the '4th Basic Plan for Healthy Families' (2021-2025) and to recognize the new family type as a'family' within the legal system.

The plan is to embrace even households who have not been recognized as'family', such as non-marriage or living together, and therefore have not received benefits or support under the law.

This is due to the increase in the proportion of'couples and unmarried children' households, which were considered as typical families, from 37.0% in 2010 to 29.8% in 2019, and new types of households such as unmarried households and living together.

We move away from the existing principle that prioritizes children's saints and father's surnames, and promotes changes in laws and systems in a way that parents discuss.

In addition, it has been decided to expand the government's preliminary intervention in families where child abuse occurs.

For domestic violence crimes, we are promoting measures to abolish the crime of anti-intentional punishment, which can punish the perpetrator only at the request of the victim.

The Ministry of Leisure and Home Affairs is planning to continue to consult with relevant ministries in the future as all of these plans are linked to the issue of legal amendment by other ministries.

The Ministry of Leisure and Affairs plans to hold an online public hearing tomorrow afternoon with experts and the public taking part.
