The CEO of nstagram said on Tuesday that he was not entirely satisfied with the Reels of the social network.

The feature, launched in August, still needs to be optimized according to Adam Mosseri.

He was delighted with the growing number of videos shared by Instagram users, in an interview broadcast as a podcast by the tech media

“Let's be honest, TikTok is still ahead,” however admitted the leader.

Unclear formats

The Reels were launched to compete with TikTok.

The goal is therefore far from being achieved, Adam Mosseri wants to put some order in the different video formats offered on Instagram.

Besides the simple publication, users can indeed post a story, Reels or even a sequence on IGTV.

However, according to the CEO, "most people" do not, for example, differentiate between IGTV videos, available since 2018, and others.

He therefore advocates a return to “simplicity and know-how” which would allow “improvement in the creation of more powerful and more creative tools”.

Adam Mosseri thus hopes to eventually give content creators the tools to "do something that will clash".

For this, Instagram should no longer seek to differentiate itself at all costs, he commented.

The trend would therefore be towards the possible merger of several formats in order to make the platform clearer.

“We still have a long way to go,” concluded the Instagram executive.
