Several tens of thousands of Netflix customers have been the target of phishing campaigns in recent weeks.

This scam aims to steal user identifiers by sending them fraudulent emails.

According to researchers from Proofpoint, a company specializing in computer security, these phishing campaigns have targeted 70,000 people in France,

Experts have highlighted two recurring techniques.

Suspended accounts and payment default

The first is to let customers know that their Netflix account has been suspended due to a default.

They then have the possibility of clicking on a link to regularize their situation by entering their identifiers, which allows criminals to recover them.

The other campaign consists of informing the user that they have just canceled their subscription after an invoice dispute.

The latter has the possibility to resubscribe by clicking on a link.

Then again, the web portal is bogus and the crooks are grabbing the data.

Identify suspicious addresses and URLs

To prevent these phishing risks, Proofpoint's cybersecurity strategy director, quoted by

, explains that users must keep “their operating system, their browsers and their plug-ins up to date” in order to protect their identifiers.

It is also necessary to check the origin of the emails received and not to click on the links and attachments if this one is suspicious.

The URL of the site the victims are referred to is a second clue.

It has to match Netflix, in this case.

Finally, spelling errors in the email should also alert the recipient.
