A couple of August, while staying in their Marbella summer refuge, in Guadalmina Baja, José Luis Garci and Andrea Tenuta invited their friend Luis Herrero to dinner.

Upon arrival, according to the mandatory protocol, the

made by Garci with

Alfredo Landa's recipe

was served

.

In those days, the journalist was somewhat taciturn.

His latest book,

I Stopped Pronouncing Your Name

(La Esfera de los Libros), had reached

its sixth edition

and, for several months, rubbed shoulders with the best-selling fiction books in Spain.

However, the challenge of writing again was becoming more complex than she remembered.

It was then that the filmmaker offered his help.

"For a long time, Garci had been commenting to me that he had written a script for

a movie with Paul Newman and Tom Cruise

in the cast," says Herrero.

"It was a suspenseful plot, very much in the vein of Hitchcock. He spoke directly to Newman, but since he didn't have time at the time, the story stayed in a drawer for many, many years."

Until now.

After giving him that story for free, Herrero was so fascinated by it that he began to write it.

The result, which is already in bookstores, is titled

Where the earth ends

and it features a famous American writer who decides to go to the end of the world, to a remote corner of Finisterre, so that the world will forget about him.

Despite containing certain ingredients typical of the crime novel, Herrero assures that the plot is "

closer to Hitchcock than to Fritz Lang

, if we make the cinematographic comparison".

Furthermore, the author acknowledges that this is, to date, his most ambitious novel.

"It has more depth. It tries to get to the roots of human emotions that I had not explored in previous ones. It has been an interesting effort and, at the same time, very exhausting."

"I have respected the essence of Garci's story, but I have also increased it," adds Herrero.

"The novel demands more subplots from you, outlining the characters more ... I have incorporated some new ones and I have changed the identity of others so that everything fits together.

Garci has not read it yet

."
