Apple is thought to be considering the creation of a paid podcast service which could be named Podcasts + according to the American site The Information, relayed by 01.net.

This new premium strategy would allow it to follow in its wake podcast creators by guaranteeing them better income.

The apple brand could thus make profitable the 800 million dollars of investments it made in the field of podcasts.

The American giant has long been positioned in the market via its free Apple Podcasts application.

Apple is reportedly preparing a paid podcast offer to counter Spotify.

Spotify relies on exclusivity

By creating a premium subscription, the Cupertino company would also follow in the footsteps of Spotify, which would also consider a paid offer for listening to podcasts.

This service would be separate from the traditional subscriptions offered by the Swedish company and could cost 3, 5 or 8 dollars per month.

Spotify recently signed exclusive contracts with Archewell Audio, the production company of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but also with the Obama couple.

Joe Rogan, one of the most listened to podcasters in the United States, has also made a commitment to broadcast his content only on the audio streaming platform.

All the tech giants are getting started

But the two companies are far from the only ones interested in podcasts.

This is also the case with Amazon, which signed an agreement at the end of December to buy the independent podcast platform Wondery for around $ 300 million.

Twitter has meanwhile relied on the takeover of Breaker to develop a group audio chat feature.

Google is developing its own app, called Google Podcasts.
