Yesterday (11th) and yesterday at an industrial site, we delivered news that workers were caught by machinery and died. Today, a daily worker fell from the height of the 9th floor and died at a construction site in Busan.

While unfortunate accidents are continuing, the Supreme Court today decided to significantly raise the sentencing criteria for deaths related to occupational safety.

Reporter Jung Joon-ho reports.

is a construction site for an officetel in Busan.

This morning, Jung-mo, in her 40s, who worked as a daily worker, crashed and died on the 9th floor.

It fell while waterproofing a window frame from a steel railing on the outer wall of the building.

There is an iron safety fence on the 9th floor, but there was no toxic safety fence in the place where Mr. Jeong was working.

The police are investigating the person responsible for the construction work on charges of negligence.

[Busan Nambu Police Station Official: (The dead worker) thought that a safety fence was placed, and he leaned on his back like this.

I didn't wear a hard hat, I didn't wear a safety hook...

In the midst of this, the Supreme Court's sentencing committee has significantly increased the sentencing criteria for deaths under the Industrial Safety Act.

We raised the basic sentencing criteria from 6 months to 1 year and 6 months in prison for employers who are responsible for negligence from 1 year to 2 years and 6 months.

If there are multiple victims and repeat similar accidents within 5 years, the sentence can be sentenced to up to 10 years and 6 months in prison.

These standards also apply to field trainees.

The new sentencing criteria will be finalized at the general meeting of the sentencing committee in March after the process of collecting opinions.
