A deadly fire broke out in an apartment in Amiens, on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.

The firefighters, alerted around 10:30 p.m., were unable to save an 80-year-old woman and a man, whose age and relationship to the first victim remain unknown.

An investigation has been opened. 

A man and a woman died in an apartment fire in Amiens on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, AFP learned from firefighters.

The firefighters were alerted "shortly after 10:30 pm" for a "violent residential fire" on the first floor of a house in the Faubourg de Hem district in Amiens, told AFP the SDIS (Departmental Fire Department and de Secours) of the Somme, confirming information from Courrier Picard. 

About thirty firefighters on the operation 

Arrived on the spot, "they took out an 80-year-old woman who was in cardio-respiratory arrest. Despite attempts at resuscitation, she was declared dead on the spot," the same source added.

The body of a man whose age was not known was also found, without knowing his connection to the first victim.

In total, around thirty firefighters were engaged in the operation.

An investigation has been opened to determine the origin of the tragedy.
