After four days of investigation, the Yeosu Maritime Police Station found a vessel that dumped waste oil in the sea at Gwangyang Port.



The Yeosu Coast Guard said it was arresting and investigating the 67-year-old A, an engineer of a 200t class tugboat, who secretly dumped waste oil on the ship and escaped.



On the 21st, around 10:17 am, a report was received that the oil band was spreading widely in Gwangyang Port, Jeollanam-do.



The Yeosu Coast Guard conducted a clean-up operation for about 4 hours using 16 ships including a control boat and 285 kg of adsorbent to remove the oil strip, but did not find any ships that discarded waste oil.



The Maritime Police conducted an investigation by placing a total of 48 suspected vessels on the suspected ship through vessel control, CCTV, and spillage prediction system, and identified illegally acting vessels four days after the incident.



As a result of the investigation, it was revealed that Mr. A discharged about 880 liters of waste oil from the bottom of the boat.




It is reported that the detailed investigation team identified the dragon vessel based on the'Oil Recognition Analysis', and confirmed the leak from the vessel entering Gwangyang Port and confessed all the incidents.



According to the Marine Environment Management Act, a person who dumps oil in the sea may be fined up to 5 years in prison and up to 50 million won.
