Soon a network of drone deliveries in Europe -

Geeko

The coronavirus pandemic has had a significant impact on the supply of goods, but also on deliveries.

It is in this context that the idea of setting up a global transport network for freight drones was born in Europe, reports ZDNet.

An ambitious project which should materialize as of next year.

The Bulgarian specialist company Dronamics was chosen to set up this network.

The latter will integrate both private airports and groups of airports with 35 airports in 11 European countries.

The first 5 delivery points of the European Dronamics network are located in Belgium, Croatia, Finland, Italy and Sweden.

The main objective of the project is to be able to provide a daily delivery service within the EU in the coming years.

Dronamics foresees the first commercial flights by the beginning of the year 2022. It is the Black Swan model with a capacity of 350 kg and a range of 2,500 km which will take care of the first cargo deliveries.

New rules coming into force soon

At the moment, due to the different laws in force in the different European countries, such a project cannot be implemented, but as of January 1, 2021, the European Union will adopt a unified regulation concerning this type of apparatus.

Standardized rules will thus replace existing regulations in the various EU countries and may allow the development of a delivery network by freight drones.

The establishment of such a network has a lot of potential, especially in the current context.

“Earlier this year, the world saw the effects that closed borders and strict quarantine measures have had on global supply chains as the world was and still is battling the pandemic. of Covid-19 ”, explained Massimo Roccasecca, director of cargo consolidation at SAVE Group, operator of Brescia airport.

“But when you have a way to move goods without transporting them, supply chains are no longer an obstacle for containment.

"

It wouldn't be the first time that drones have been used to make deliveries.

In the United States for example, Amazon has already tested this solution in 2015.
