Chung Gyeong-shim, a professor at Dongyang University, who was handed over to trial on charges related to child entrance examination and private equity investment, was sentenced to four years in prison at the first trial and was imprisoned.

The Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 25-2 (Judge Lim Jeong-yeop, Deputy Judge Kwon Seong-soo, Kim Sun-hee) sentenced Professor Jeong, who was charged with 15 charges in total, to a fine of 500 million won in four years in prison and arrested in court on the 23rd.

It also levied a surcharge of 140 million won.

The court admitted all charges of Professor Jeong with regard to the allegation of corruption in the entrance examination, and found some charges innocent for allegations of private equity funds and the destruction of evidence.

The judge said, "All confirmations, including the experience activities of Dankook University's science research institute, are false," and said, "The defendant actively participated in submitting the self-introduction and citation to medical graduate schools, and all charges related to irregularities in the entrance examination are guilty."

In particular, regarding the citation of Tong Yang University, which became an issue, we judged that "the fact of counterfeiting is sufficiently recognized."

Professor Jeong did not even accept the claim that forgery was impossible because he did not know how to use computers.

Regarding the private equity fund, Professor Jeong was charged with obtaining profits by acquiring undisclosed information related to WFM, a secondary battery company invested by private equity manager Kolink PE, and the suspicion of opening a borrowed account with the intention of concealing property details. I judged it guilty.

The Ministry of Justice said, "As former Minister Cho took office as chief civil servant and became obligated to make property according to the Public Officials Ethics Act, he used a borrowed account to conceal stocks and escape the obligation to submit."

However, the judiciary found it innocent for the charges that Professor Jeong signed a false consulting contract and received money from Cho's fifth niece, Beom-dong, who was involved in embezzlement.

The court explained that "Mr. Cho's 1 billion won received from the defendant is all investment funds," but "It is difficult to say that he arranged or urged the embezzlement of KOLINK PE funds."

Professor Chung was also acquitted of conspiring with Mr. Jo to inflate the amount of the investment agreement to the Financial Services Commission to report false changes.

The judiciary also made different judgments on charges such as destruction, forgery, and concealment of evidence, depending on the case of the prosecution.

First of all, it was judged that "it cannot be said that it was proved without reasonable doubt" on the allegations that Professor Chung instructed Korink PE employees to falsify the fund management report.

"Professor Jeong is a co-criminal by carrying out the act of carrying out with Kim," he said. "Professor Jeong can not be punished for concealing evidence."

However, I thought that it was acknowledged that Korink PE had collused with Korink PE to instruct him to delete the materials related to Professor Jeong's younger brother that Korink PE kept.

Regarding the irregularities of the entrance examination, the judge said, "In light of the bold crime method, the guilt is not very good," and said, "There is a very high possibility of accusation as it causes negative consequences that cause our society to abandon the beliefs and expectations of the entrance examination system." I did.

He also pointed out that "they have a legal obligation to faithfully report property according to the Public Officials Ethics Act, but to increase their own and their family's property, they borrowed accounts of others, used undisclosed information, and concealed the proceeds of crime." .

In 2013-2014, Professor Jeong was charged with forgery or false issuance of documents, including the citation of the president of Tong Yang University, and submitting it to her daughter's medical school entrance examination, interfering with the admissions process.

In addition, after Cho was inaugurated as chief civil servant at the Blue House, he was accused of embezzling 150 million won by making a new investment through Korink PE and a false consulting contract with Korink PE to avoid the ethics regulations for public officials that prohibited direct investment. There is also.

There is also suspicion of having Kim Gyeong-rok to remove his home and the PC of the Tong Yang University laboratory, or instructing the Korink PE staff to delete the private equity documents.

Professor Jeong has been tried in a state of disregard since his release in May due to the expiration of his arrest period.
