The countdown begins.

Twenty-nine candidates from metropolitan France and overseas territories will parade this Saturday evening at Puy du Fou to try to win the coveted title of Miss France 2021. Even if Internet users will not be able to vote directly for their favorite miss, them social networks now occupy a prominent place in the competition.

They have become a real communication tool, which most of the contenders use to increase their popularity.

“It's a direct link with their audience.

This allows them to no longer have an intermediary and to be able to respond directly.

They were given keys to use it.

Last year, they also had training at Instagram, ”explained Sylvie Tellier, director of the organization Miss France, to

Télé-Loisirs.

"Training" in social networks

Since their regional coronation, the 29 candidates - overexposed in the media - have been made aware of the abuses and the misdeeds that social networks can cause.

“We give them a lot of advice.

We explain to them that social networks are a communication tool, like television, the written press (…) We explain to them that they should not read too many comments and not become attached to everything that is written.

There is such verbal violence on the networks… ”, details the boss of Miss France.

The contenders for the title of Miss France 2021 must also respect certain rules set by the Miss France Committee.

“They can post whatever they want as long as they're alone and don't reveal the bounty costumes either.

There is no post validation (…) We really let them speak freely to their community ”.

The only ban they have is “posting pictures of girlfriends.

We are in a competition, I wouldn't want one of them to say "look, she posted a photo of me and I was not to my advantage" ... ", specifies Sylvie Tellier.

Are the most popular on social networks the favorites?

The “digital popularity” of the contestants in the election is this year closely scrutinized.

More than half of the Miss France 2021 promo exceeds 10,000 subscribers on Instagram.

All take care of their Insta profile to develop their community and try to increase their popularity.

Some of them already have up to 58,000 subscribers.

This is the case of Miss Côte d'Azur, Lara Gautier, elected the most popular candidate on social networks.

Just behind, we find Lou-Anne Lorphelin, followed by nearly 52,000 fans, and Miss Provence, April Benayoum, who has more than 40,000 followers.

Can social networks influence the outcome of the election?

"The misses from the" big "regions, which often finish on the podium, generally have more followers", explained last year to

20 Minutes

Mélissa Gaubert, specialist of the Miss France contest and administrator of the Facebook page "On the road to Miss France ”followed by nearly 50,000 subscribers.

“But you can't trust these numbers.

Miss favorites on social networks do not necessarily end up in the leading pack, ”she added.

There is therefore no guarantee today that a like will change into a vote on D-Day to designate the big winner ...
