The Spanish-Polish actor signs his first leading role in film in 'Standard', a thriller by Fernando González Gómez
Born in Warsaw, Niko Verona has worked in dozens of short films, plays and films with small supporting roles
The premiere of 'Sky Rojo', a Netflix series with the creators of 'La casa de papel', is pending
All the actors have an interesting story to tell.
And
Niko Verona's
(Warsaw, 1985) is full of dreams to fulfill.
Now, the most important of those dreams fulfilled is that, after many years working in the profession in small roles, he
stars in his first film:
Standard
.
In the film directed by Fernando González Gómez and which is already in theaters, Verona plays Tomás, a
very peculiar investigator
who searches for clues in the supermarket who is working to find the whereabouts of his platonic love (Susana Abaitua,
Patria
series
).
Along with Abaitua and Verona participate Jesús Vidal (Goya for his role in
Champions
, by Javier Fesser) and Alejandro Tous (series
I am Bea
).
"Since I was 17 years old I have wanted to be an actor. During this time I have made shorts, films, plays and advertisements," explains the interpreter.
And he has lived in Warsaw, Havana and Madrid, the city in which he currently resides.
Tomás is a very peculiar detective in 'Standard'.
THE ACTOR FROM THE PRIMITIVE ANNOUNCEMENT
Among his 'small but big roles' in film, Niko Verona
has worked on the thriller
The Man with a Thousand Faces
, alongside Eduard Fernández
;
in the comedy
Yucatán
, by Daniel Monzón and in series such as
SMS, without fear of dreaming
,
Centro Médico
and
Las chicas del cable
.
Although, in quantitative terms, his most viewed work may be in a series of advertisements for La Primitiva in which he
plays the secretary of the Lord of Destiny
.
"It is a very funny story in which the director has been Álvaro Brechner, who has a Goya Award for the script of
La noche de 12 años
. It's not that people stop me on the street, but it has had an impact. At least among my friends, "he laughs.
Due to his origin and all the years that he has been living in Spain (he speaks impeccable Spanish), Niko Verona receives
offers for Spanish characters and also from others with an Eastern European accent
.
The next thing will be
Sky Rojo
, a Netflix series
created by Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato (
La casa de papel
) that will premiere in 2021 and in which Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Verónica Sánchez, Enric Auquer and Asier Etxeandia participate.

ARTIST AND PRODUCER
For Niko,
being an actor is his great youth dream
.
It has not been easy.
Since he finished his studies of Interpretation at Réplika Teatro, this young man with a permanent smile has combined small roles in dozens of works until he is able to reach today, in which acting is his way of life.
"In this profession luck matters a lot, but
perseverance, effort and work much more
. As in everything in life, luck has to go out and look for it. And, in my case,
when something didn't come out or it didn't sound the telephone
, I was the one who raised the projects as a producer if necessary. "
Among his many facets (as a waiter, a classic among actors, he has not worked), Niko Verona presents that of
translator, actor at bachelorette parties and journalist
.
He studied Journalism at the Complutense University and worked as such in a large medium.
A time in which he was able to write Culture themes and interview acting giants such as Angelina Jolie, Javier Bardem or Julia Roberts.
"It is curious to remember that there was a time when
I was next to interpreters whom I admire
as a journalist. Later I did it as an actor. Who would have thought that would happen."
Niko Verona shares scenes with Jesús Vidal in 'Standard'.
THE BAD STREAKS OF THE ACTORS
Aware that there are good and bad streaks, Niko Verona points out that "sometimes, an actor can see the success he achieves thanks to a series or a movie. Or even as a result of what he puts on his social networks. But,
in reality Being an actor has a lot of office work added to it
: sending emails, updating videobooks, networking, attending film festivals ... That has helped me a lot. In fact,
I have recorded
Standard
with Fernando González Gómez, a friend at I've known since my student days. "
Finally, Niko Verona adds that, in addition to family, friends and the
Standard
team
,
one of his great thanks regarding this feature film is for the Asperger Madrid Association.
With them the role of Tomás was prepared, a young man with many characteristics similar to those who have this syndrome.
"It was not in the script nor is it told in the film that Tomás has Asperger's, but when the director told me the story, I thought I should talk to someone from that association. I explained my role to them and they helped me a lot. I have been in sessions and
the best praise possible is that they are reflected in my character
. I am very honored that the job is well done in that sense. "
