"Tik Tech": We tested Boulanger's Loops 4 nomadic speaker -

20 Minutes

  • The distributor brand of the Boulanger Oglo # chain is launching the Loops 4, a portable Bluetooth speaker sold for 79 euros.

  • Well made and resistant to small shocks and splashes, the device also plays a fairly good sound score.

  • But at the same price, competitors from major audio brands, such as JBL's Flip Essential or Ultimate Ears' Wonderboom 2, are waiting for it at the turn.

State-of-the-art game console, smartphone, connected watch, in-ear headphones… or Bluetooth speaker?

If Santa Claus chooses this last option and doesn't want to spend too much, the new Loops 4 nomad speaker from Oglo # is already eyeing him.

Oglo #?

This is the “distributor” audio brand of the Boulanger brand.

This has been raging for several years on the shelves with hi-fi systems, headphones and other speakers at low prices.

Its goal: to offer alternative products to those of the big brands, by selling them slightly cheaper to win the bet.

Sold for 79 euros, Loops 4 is no exception to the rule.

Oglo's Loops 4 loudspeaker # launched at 79 euros.

Splash resistant

Or a tubular enclosure with a fairly classic design, even a little massive.

From the outset, we know that the mobile device will withstand the small shocks of everyday life.

The device, to IP56 standard, is splash and dust resistant.

A hermetic housing has even been provided to protect the connections: power socket, 3.5 mm mini-jack input, as well as USB socket.

The latter allows you to enjoy music files contained in a USB key than to recharge a smartphone, the Loops 4 can act as a power

bank

.

The Loops 4 loudspeaker benefits from a robust construction and is splash-proof.

Oglo # remains silent on the battery capacity of the device, but its autonomy is announced at 8 hours, with a charge time of around 3 hours, which we were indeed able to verify.

Little more: a strap on the side allows you to hang the speaker.

Buying a carabiner may seem wise ...

Go anywhere sound

The device does not surprise.

It turns out to be more in line with the expectation that one might have of a product with a good quality / price ratio.

Offering a very correct sound, Loops 4 thus evolves in a well balanced register despite a slight deficiency in bass.

The two 10 cm speakers on the front and the passive bass radiator on the top work together to offer a "go anywhere" sound, which will suit both pop and rock fans, those of R'n. 'B or rap.

The enclosure can be used outdoors but cannot be submerged.

Classical music will be at ease, but jazz will undoubtedly lack a little warmth to curl up in the 20 watts offered by the Loops 4. Warning: playing music at very high volume breaks this beautiful balance, with a degraded sound bill.

But for that, you have to push the speaker above 80% of its playable volume.

The same price as the big ones

The Loops 4 can therefore seduce and win the votes of buyers looking for a smart purchase.

But where, with its Loops 3 launched 2 years ago and sold for only 59 euros, Oglo # was a less expensive alternative to other speakers, the Loops 4 is positioned at the same price as certain speakers from pure audio brands which have proven themselves.

At 79 euros, we find in the bins the Wonderboom 2 from Ultimate Ears, the Flip Essential.

On its site, Bose even offers a few reconditioned copies of its SoundLink Color speaker at 79 euros instead of 139 euros.

Santa Claus will therefore be well advised to compare before getting carried away and packing it up.
