Offer an alternative to Facebook.

This is the goal of Mobilizon, a new tool for creating and managing public events independently of Gafam.

A first version was put online at the end of October by Framasoft, the French association that created it, reports

.

In practice, Mobilizon is a mobilization platform where participants can publish and search for events, but also join groups.

To do this, all you need is an e-mail address.

The software also offers a discussion space and allows the dissemination of external content or blog posts.

An ethical alternative to Facebook

It is even possible to manage multiple profiles with a single account.

“This will allow you, for example, to reserve a profile to register for family birthdays and another for work-related conferences,” says Framasoft on his blog.

With Mobilizon, the association wanted to set up a tool "healthier for the Internet" than those offered by Facebook, Meetup or even Eventbrite.

According to its creators, who took two years to develop it, it prevents the exploitation of personal data and "monopolization".

A service more than a hobby

Indeed, its network is decentralized and several websites already offer to host it.

Mobilizon is also free software, which means that its source code is public.

Developers can therefore change it as they see fit.

Framasoft also warns those who consider it a new social network.

The collective defines the platform as a “service” and not as “a hobby where you can scroll endlessly”.
