Kuki and Blenderbot, the AIs flirting live on the Twitch platform -

  • For two weeks, two chatbots exchanged live on the online platform Twitch.

  • Internet users were invited to vote for the most “human” bot.

  • Kuki, the female bot, and Blenderbot, its male counterpart, were created by two separate companies.

She enjoys playing video games and eating kebabs.

He, apparent pecs, seems to like fitness and confesses a penchant for country music.

Since October 20, 2020, Kuki and Blenderbot have been courting each other online and chatting about everything and nothing.

Monsieur looks strangely like Mark Zuckerberg and wears a "Make Facebook Great Again" cap.

Madam, meanwhile, wears very short blue hair and electric green pants.

Together, they realize what could be the longest, but above all the most unusual romantic date in history because our two lovebirds are not humans, but chatbots represented as avatars.

Artificial romance

Of course, their meeting is more of a fixed date than a real date because it is actually an experience organized in the form of a competition game, which ended on November 3.

Called

Bot Battle

, it was launched on the Twitch video streaming platform to assess the degree of realism of a conversation fueled by artificial intelligence.

"

Do you think you cry or laugh more than most people?"

"

Launches offhand Kuki.

"

I laugh and cry at the same time, maybe that's why I love the pool so much

,

"

Blenderbot replies, almost thoughtfully.

Our two chatbots might be AI boosted, but nothing they say really makes sense.

Football, politics, passions, social networks… they tackle subjects jumbled up without any consistency.

What do you like to do with your free time?

"

Asks politely Blenderbot.

I like kebabs, I could eat them all day.

You like music ?

"

Answered Kuki.

A live Turing test

One has the feeling of witnessing a totally absurd Turing test live, or rather a conversation between two people with Alzheimer's, because some questions, although framed differently, come up frequently.

They are sometimes embellished with surprising details.

"

Do you like to fold your toilet paper?"

»

, Launches Kuki in turn.

Yes, it's easier than rolling it into a ball,

Blenderbot replies laconically.

Embarrassing moments of silence ensue during which the two avatars seem almost embarrassed.

But still they would have to be aware of their existence for this to be the case.

Sometimes a flash of genius strikes and one of the bots shows humor, even wit.

"

I don't remember what we were talking about ...

"

, says one.

"

What's wrong, are you having a problem with your RAM?"

"

, Continues each other before adding further,

"

I '

love playing Turing test

(a real video game whose name is inspired by artificial intelligence test of the same name, ed) "

Our "Twitch" folder

On Twitch, Internet users were invited to listen to their conversation and vote for the robot they believe has the most human characteristics.

And the result is unanimous, it was Kuki who won the test with 78% of the vote, according to Pandorabots, the firm behind the competition and the female bot.

Blenderbot was created by Facebook's artificial intelligence research lab, which probably explains the hat and the resemblance to its president.

Obviously, neither of the two competitors actually won the test.

They neither fell in love, nor even befriended, each answer falling flat next to the previous question.

As it is, the two bots are still talking to each other and they are not ready to want to stop.

"

Wait, what were we talking about already?"
