5 pairs of 100% film-free headphones for less than 120 euros tested -

20 Minutes

  • Since the arrival of Apple's AirPods, 100% wireless headphones, also known as True Wireless, have become objects of envy among the public.

  • Recharging in their storage case, they allow you to listen to music in Bluetooth from a smartphone in complete freedom.

  • Manufacturers are bustling about and offering products at reduced prices, but their quality is very uneven.

Tested, but not all approved.

The 100% wireless headphones known as

True Wireless

will undoubtedly remain among the most desirable high-tech products of the year 2020. The commercial triumph of AirPods *, then Apple's AirPods Pro spurs audio brands to enter the market. dance.

Private labels, such as Silvercrest (Lidl), its 100% wireless headphones at 25 euros, or even Essentiel b (Boulanger), are following suit.

Our opinion on Silvercrest sold at Lidl

So, what are these “AirPods like” as they are called?

Can they claim to compete, if not by their design, with the tenors of the apple brand?

And is it possible to find credible alternatives on the market at a competitive price?

From 39 euros to 119 euros, "20 Minutes" tested 5 pairs of these headphones.

And first observation: the cheapest are not necessarily the worst.

"20 Minutes" tested five pairs of 100% wireless headphones sold from 39 to 149 euros.

At 39 euros: a clear and airy sound for the EBTWS00 of Essentiel b

After Lidl and its Silvercrest for less than 25 euros tested here recently, the brand of “in-house” products from the Boulanger chain is also launching its

True Wireless

headphones

.

These are “semi-intras” headphones: the two small appendages are placed at the entrance to the ears, but do not sink into them.

- ESSENTEIL B

The whole, in white plastic, does not a priori inspire a feeling of very high quality.

The storage box is extremely light and it's hard to believe that it has a built-in battery to charge up to 3 times and for 7 hours per charge the headphones (that's 21 hours of battery life. But it works. And well.

In Bluetooth 5.0, the EBTWS00s pair immediately.

The tests that we carried out, by discovering for example the album

On / Off

of the Lebanese French singer Bachar Mar-Khalifé, reveal a very high-pitched sound where the bass is clearly behind.

However, the ear is gradually shaped by this listening.

In the absence of warmth and roundness, we are nevertheless satisfied with a clear and airy sound.

The touch controls are reduced to a minimum here: Play / Pause and Pick up / Hang up.

At 49 euros, the very honest and correct HA-A7T from JVC

The Japanese manufacturer is trying to distinguish itself with these

True Wireless

headphones

at a reduced price.

And it is rather successful.

Favoring a slightly textured white plastic material to the varnished one of many competitors, the HA-A7T also opt for controls with a physical button.

We will not complain about it so much the functioning of those, tactile, of many competitors, remains sometimes hazardous.

Ben Harper, Fleetwood Mac, Alicia Keys and Clint Eastwood attended for our tests.

And we were pleasantly surprised by this small pair of intras with a very decent quality / price ratio.

Without shouting "genius", here we are faced with a product that does not lie about its capabilities, but which restores an overall good sound.

Quite mat in its texture (the bass may lack a little punch), listening remains pleasant, even at fairly high volume.

At 69 euros, the far too high pitched sound of the Urban Ears Alby

No surprise on the design: a taste of déjà vu.

Available in five colors, these in-ear headphones come with three pairs of ear tips in different sizes.

At IPX4 standard, they are protected against rain and sweat and have touch controls.

Warning: if their case (which supports search by induction) can recharge them up to 4 times in a row, their autonomy is only 3 hours per charge, which is not much.

For our tests, Kungs, the Beatles, Eskobar, Balthazar and Jamie Cullum served as guinea pigs.

Be careful, the sound produced by Alby headphones is excessively high-pitched.

Nice to listen to the intro on

Eskobar's

Skyscraper

guitar

at moderate volume, but

This Girl

by Kungs that we inevitably want to listen to while swinging decibels to wiggle their hips and loosen our confined hips downright scratching the eardrums.

The Alby headphones from Urban Ears at 69 euros: a sound too high.

- URBAN EARS

And the lack of a dedicated app doesn't cut those dominant highs (or add lows).

At 99 euros, the good or very good Enco W51 from Oppo

Almost exact physical layer of the first Apple AirPods, the Bluetooth 5.0 Eco W51 headphones are nevertheless distinguished by a technical bias: they are intras (AirPods being semi intras).

They are thus more like AirPods Pro and also offer - oh, surprise! - a noise reduction system.

Stable in the ear, IP54 certified (against water and dust), they are comfortable to wear.

Oppo Enco W51 headphones sold for 99 euros.

- OPPO

After listening to a few songs with (rock with Bruce Springsteen, rap with Nekfeu - yes, also -, but also pop with Colplay), the conclusion is clear: the performance / price ratio of the Enco W51 headphones is good, even very good.

The sound provided is well balanced, does not burden the ears with low frequencies, but manages, on the contrary, to maintain good overall dynamics with a certain brilliance for all musical registers.

The Oppo Enco W51 earphones offer an excellent price / performance ratio.

- OPPO

At less than 100 euros, we will forgive them for not having a noise reduction system as efficient as that of the AirPods Pro.

In this area, they can do better.

Their autonomy: up to 24 hours at a rate of 4 hours per charge (3.5 hours with noise reduction)

At 119 euros, the vinyl atmosphere of Divacore's AntiPods 2

Set in their large charging case, the aptly named AntiPods 2 from the French brand Divacore take the form of a pair of in-ear headphones (you have to push them into your ears).

The tips provided (3 pairs) are shape memory and clog quickly enough with small residues of skin.

Eventually, they will probably have to be replaced.

Stabilizers are also available for better support.

Divacore's AntiPods2 sold for 149 euros.

- CHRISTOPHE SEFRIN / 20 MINUTES

Quite thick and bulky, these headphones with integrated 6mm speakers deliver a well-structured sound with textured voices at will.

Those, sensual, jazzers of the group Take 6 benefited during our tests from a very beautiful restitution.

Quite at ease in the bass and midrange range, the AntiPods 2 are calibrated "vinyl sound", but struggle more to stand out in the high frequencies and find a perfect overall balance.

But the quality is still there.

Divacore's AntiPods 2 broadcast quality sound but remain voluminous.

- DIVACORE

Originality: it is possible to call your personal assistant just by speaking, without physical interaction with one of the touchscreen controls of the headphones, which are also complete.

In pre-order at 119 euros until November 16 inclusive, the AntiPods2 will then be sold for 149 euros.

* AirPods are sold for 179 euros with charging case, 229 euros with induction charging case.

* AirPods Pro (with noise reduction) are sold for 279 euros.
