It is known as the town of bridges and towers

There is already a new getaway in sight with a very good looking.

It is the most beautiful inland town in Spain, Potes, in Cantabria, which has been chosen by the Lonely Planet travel community on Instagram.

More than 48,000 travelers have participated in the survey, in which after this beautiful town in the Liébana Valley, Besalú (Gerona), Albarracín (Teruel) and Alquézar (Huesca) have been voted.

Potes is known as the town of bridges (hence its name) and towers.

Especially noteworthy are the Infantado (today the venue for exhibitions) and the Orejón de la Lama, both from the 15th century.

The

old part of the town

preserves all its charm with its narrow streets and mansions (many of them with coats of arms), a walk that takes visitors to bygone times full of history.

One of the attractions of this town located in the heart of the Picos de Europa is

the gastronomy

, with its lebaniego stew as the maximum exponent.

It is made from the typical chickpeas of the area (small and tender), jerky or meat, cabbage and stuffing.

The number of restaurants it hosts is surprising.

Meats are another of the delicacies of the area, as are its artisanal liquors.

Potes is always full of life.

The arrival of the pilgrims, the ranchers who go to the market or the walkers who choose the town as their base of operations make

the town always lively.

Many choose this town to explore the surroundings, see the nearby peaks of the Picos de Europa and also to earn indulgences.

The Camino Lebaniego leads to the

monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana

, just two kilometers away, founded in the 6th century and where the largest preserved fragment of the Cross of Christ is kept, reason enough for Christians to pilgrimage for centuries.

Potes was declared a Historic Site (Asset of Cultural Interest) in 1983
