Former President Lee Myung-bak (79), who was sentenced to 17 years in prison on charges of embezzlement and bribery, came to the prosecution today (2nd) to go through re-incarceration procedures.

Former President Lee departed from his home in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul at around 1:46 pm today in a black Genesis vehicle and arrived at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office around 2 pm.

Former President Lee went straight into the underground parking lot and was not exposed to reporters.

Former President Lee is scheduled to be transferred to the Dongbu Detention Center in Songpa-gu, Seoul in a car provided by the prosecution after going through procedures such as identification and notice of execution in the prosecution office.

It will be re-jailed after 251 days after being released due to the suspension of execution of the Seoul High Court on February 25th.

The Eastern Detention Center was the place where former President Lee was imprisoned for about a year until he was arrested and released on bail on March 22, 2018.

At the time, former President Lee used a living room of 13.07m2 (3.95 pyeong) including toilets.

In the future, former President Lee is expected to be transferred to prison after the correctional authorities classified prisoners, but he may continue his sentence in the Eastern Detention Center without a transfer, following the precedents of former Presidents Chun Doo-hwan and Roh Tae-woo.

Former President Lee was sentenced to 17 years in prison by a Supreme Court ruling on the 29th of last month, but he has already been imprisoned for about a year in detention centers, and the remaining imprisonment period is about 16 years.
