ASF, or African swine fever, occurred in two farms in Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon-do earlier this month, and the'Gangwon-do Greater Hunting Ground' will be operated until the end of March next year to prevent wild boars living in the border region from descending to the south.

The Ministry of Environment said that it was the first nationwide supervised by local governments to permit the operation of a'wide-area hunting ground' for five cities and counties in the central region of Gangwon-do.

The target areas are Gangneung, Hongcheon, Hoengseong, Pyeongchang, and Yangyang. The hunting area is 3,015 square kilometers.

However, hunting in park areas, wetland protected areas, cultural heritage protected areas, and arboretums is restricted.

The wide-area hunt is open from the 14th of next month to the end of March of next year.

With the approval of the Gangwon-do wide-area hunting ground, unlimited capturing of wild boars in the area has become possible.

In particular, in order to encourage the capturing of wild boars by professional pilots, we decided to set and pay the capturing compensation at 500,000 won, the highest level in the country.

Gangwon-do restricts the number of hunters by region to prevent safety accidents caused by the expansion of wild boar catches, obligates the attachment of a GPS location for each participating leaflet, and restricts participation in the area where ASF occurs to prevent propagation by people and vehicles. This is the policy.
