A man in his 70s who killed a threatening neighbor with a weapon was convicted.

The second criminal division of the Jeju District Court (presiding judge Jang Chan-su) announced today (27th) that he was acquitted of 74-year-old A, who was handed over to the trial on charges of assault and fatality.

On November 3, 2019, Mr. A played Hwato with 76-year-old Mr. B at his home in Seogwipo City.

However, after losing money, Mr. B, who was angry, went back to his house, and the next day, at about 2:30 am, he came to A with a weapon and rushed to him, saying, "I will kill him."

In the process, Mr. A's wife took the weapon from Mr. B, and Mr. A grabbed Mr. B's hands, knocked him down to the floor, and pressed his neck down with his knees.

When the police, who received the report, arrived at the scene 10 minutes later, Mr. B was already unconscious, and Mr. B, who was transferred to the hospital, died of suffocation due to neck pressure.

Mr. A is known to have stated, "I felt that my strength to resist was disappearing while pressing the victim's neck, but I felt like I would rebel, so I kept holding it."

The trial also claimed that "it was an inevitable act to escape from an unjust attack.

This allegation was fueled by the fact that Mr. B, who died, showed a tendency to be violent towards the usual residents, and that all the people in the neighborhood were evading.

In addition, it was confirmed that Mr. B was punished 24 times and wielded a weapon against a woman he lived with.

The judge raised Mr. A's hand.

The court acknowledged Mr. A's self-defense and condemned him, saying, "The defendant's defense act is a means of resistance to protect himself and his wife, and it is difficult to predict the consequences of willful assault or death."
