  • Apple event.iPhone 12, HomePod Mini and all announcements expected today

Apple promised speed and speed is what it has shown at today's event, which like the rest of those held this year has opted for a virtual format.

The new iPhone 12s bring that speed on two fronts: the processor and support for 5G networks.

The company's 2020 phones, four in total, all boast the same power, screen technology, design, and connection versatility, but in different sizes, with different camera capabilities and, of course, with different points of view. price.

And yes, as rumored, these new iPhones no longer include the power adapter or headphones in the box, although any USB charger that we already have at home is worth it.

The company has justified this decision by the environmental impact of including them when most users already have headphones or chargers at home.

They do include a USB-C to Lightning cable, Apple's proprietary connection that iPhones use.

A14 BIONIC and 5G, WHAT THEY HAVE IN COMMON

Apple has recovered this year in its phones the flat edge design characteristic of the iPhone 4, 4S and 5 and that is now also possible to find in the iPad Pro. This design will be similar in all iPhone 12 models, although the colors change.

Given the sizes of the devices, the "notch" or the upper bar where the camera and the biometric facial recognition sensor are housed, will have somewhat different proportions on some models, looking comparatively thinner on larger devices.

Apple debuts the A14 Bionic processor in these phones, the first to use 5nm manufacturing technology (technically the device that debuts it is actually the new iPad Air, but it will arrive more or less at the same time as the new phones on the market) and equipped with 1,800 million transistors.

It is an incredibly capable chip, up to 50% more powerful in graphics than other mobile processors on the market.

As in previous years, it is expected to be far ahead of the rest of the industry in both general and graphics processing capabilities and this year it will also be the basis for the new Apple Silicon processors for the Mac.

These iPhone will also be the first to offer connection to 5G networks.

They will be compatible with all bands known as Sub 6Ghz technology, the 5G technology that for now has been implemented in most countries.

They will also offer connection to millimeter wave networks, a 5G technology that offers even better speeds (up to 4 Gbps, but with very short range) although this feature will only be available in some territories.

IPHONE 12, the standard

This year's iPhone range starts with two base models.

The iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12.

They are very similar.

Both models will have an OLED screen.

In the case of the iPhone 12 Mini it will be 5.4 inches diagonally.

In the iPhone 12, 6.1 inches.

The two share the same cameras, a traditional wide-angle lens with an f / 1.6 aperture that's been redesigned with a new 7-element optics and a better sensor, and a wide-angle lens with a much higher angle of view.

Apple says it has significantly improved the capabilities of the camera, which was already considered among the best in the world of mobile telephony.

Launches new processing algorithms for high dynamic range and night mode and the possibility of taking night photos also with the front camera.

The iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 will be available in four colors (black, white, red, blue and green) and in capacities of 64, 128 and 256 GB of memory.

The Mini model will go on sale for 809 euros in mid-November and can be reserved from the first week of next month.

The 6.1-inch iPhone 12 will be priced at 909 euros and can be reserved from this week.

Deliveries will begin at the end of the month.

IPHONE 12 PRO, only for large pockets

The most advanced iPhone models this year share the same basic features as the iPhone 12, but come with better cameras, in a larger size (in the case of the iPhone 12 Pro Max), with more memory and with different colors.

The iPhone 12 Pro will have a screen similar to the iPhone 12, 6.1 inches and the main difference between the two terminals will be in the camera.

Instead of two cameras on the back, the iPhone 12 Pro will have 3. The angular and wide-angle cameras - which will have better lenses compared to the iPhone 12 - will be added the telephoto lens that will allow an optical zoom equivalent to 4X.

The telephoto lens will still have a field of view similar to that of a 52mm lens.

in traditional photography.

The phone will also include a depth LiDAR sensor like the one already found in this year's iPad Pro, which allows the distance between different objects in a scene to be captured in detail.

Thanks to this sensor, Apple ensures that it will be able to offer photographs in portrait mode much more similar to what is expected from a SLR camera, allowing the mode to be enabled even in night photos.

The LiDAR sensor will also improve focus in low light.

The largest iPhone, the iPhone 12 Pro Max, will have a 6.7-inch screen and the camera will be even better than the iPhone 12 Pro.

Thanks to a larger sensor it will be able to offer the equivalent of a 5x zoom using the same technique.

The telephoto lens, in this case, will offer a shooting angle similar to that of a 65mm.

in traditional photography.

The wide angle of the iPhone 12 Pro Max will also capture a greater angle of view.

The iPhone 12 Pro will be able to record and edit video in 10 bit and with Dolby Vision HDR compatibility.

It will be the first phone on the market capable of doing so, thanks to the company's new processor.

The two Pro models will be available in gold, silver, graphite and blue and in capacities of 128, 256 and 512 GB of memory.

The iPhone 12 Pro will go on sale at the end of this month and can be reserved this week at a price that starts at 1,159 euros.

The iPhone Pro Max model will hit the market in mid-November and can be reserved from the first week of November at a price that starts at 1,259 euros.

Improved WIRELESS CHARGING

All iPhone 12 will be compatible, like previous models, with wireless charging systems based on Qi technology, but they integrate a new magnetic attachment system baptized as MagSafe - the same name that Apple used in the magnetic charging connectors of its old portable- and that will allow greater efficiency in the charging process or connect new accessories.

Apple will launch two chargers compatible with this new technology this year and it will also be available to third-party manufacturers.

One of the new chargers announced today allows you to charge your Apple Watch and your phone at the same time and can be folded to take it on the road.

In addition to chargers, the new magnetic connection can be used in cases and accessories and third-party manufacturers can design products around it.

and they also announced the HOMEPOD MINI

Along with the new iPhones, Apple has also announced a new version of its smart speaker, the HomePod, to be called the HomePod Mini.

It does not replace the previous model, which will continue to be sold at its usual price, but thanks to its lower price, the Mini better complements the manufacturer's audio offer.

The HomePod Mini is a small, ball-shaped speaker about 8 centimeters in diameter designed for smaller rooms in the house.

Its main attraction is the price.

It will cost 99 euros and although it does not have the same power as the original HomePod, it does boast some of its same functions.

For example, two units can be paired in stereo mode and function as an AirPlay 2 device, which means that they can receive music from other Apple devices wirelessly and distribute it to various rooms in the house if they are equipped with compatible speakers, including wireless speakers. other brands as in the case of Sonos.

Like the original HomePod, the HomePod Mini doesn't have a Bluetooth connection.

It exclusively uses WiFi and AirPLay 2 to stay connected to different sound sources.

Operation relies heavily on voice commands and the Siri digital assistant, although the user can pause and resume playback or control the volume by tapping on the small illuminated top surface.

Thanks to the UWB technology, which allows to know exactly the position of the devices indoors, it will also be possible to see a graphical interface when bringing the phone closer.

Apple has also designed an intercom feature that lets you send voice messages to other rooms or to the Apple devices of the whole family.

The new HomePod Mini will be available starting November 16.
