Hyundai is developing a vehicle with articulated limbs -

In early 2019, Hyundai surprised the assembly of the Las Vegas technology show, CES, by unveiling the Elevate Ultimate Mobility, a concept vehicle whose wheels are mounted on articulated arms.

A concept straight out of a particularly promising science fiction film that will finally come to life.

Thanks to its "articulated legs", the Elevate can move over any difficult terrain while keeping the cabin horizontal, in order to ensure the good transport of its passengers.

The vehicle could therefore be useful in many emergency situations.

The concept of Hyundai could indeed be used as an ambulance, a rescue service or transport of people with a disability that can go to the accident sites without problem or access the door of a building, located above. a staircase, for example.

A concept that will work for sure

Originally, the automaker just thought of offering a revolutionary concept, without necessarily having the ambition to give shape, but the Elevate was so popular that Hyundai finally decided to bring the project to life.

The Korean company has created a new division, the New Horizons studio, responsible for putting the vehicle concept on wheels.

“Our goal is to create the world's first Transformer vehicle,” John Suh, the man at the head of Hyundai's new studio, said in a statement.

In developing the concept of the Elevate, researchers in the new division will focus on developing ultimate mobility vehicles (UMVs) by combining robotics with cars.

It is difficult to know at the moment if the Elevate Ultimate Mobility is a viable project.

If the concept is promising on paper, what will it be on wheels?

In any case, you will have to be patient.

We should not see such a type of vehicle on the streets for many, many years, but it could still inspire other manufacturers who could also embark on the design of “Transformer” vehicle.

The Elevate or something like that could actually come in handy in many situations.
