At first, we thought it had landed on our screen or the camera lens.

But it is on Mike Pence's silver hair that a fly took up residence on Wednesday night during his debate against Kamala Harris.

This #flygate obviously made Twitter and Joe Biden happy.

While assuring that "systemic" racism did not exist among the police, the vice-president apparently did not notice the insect, which remained in place for more than two minutes.

The incident has captivated the Web, from Stephen King to venerable journalist Dan Rather.

Hey waiter!

I'll have the soup.

Mike Pence will have some shit for his fly.

Fly.

Bye.

Joe Biden capitalizes

Obviously, it didn't take long before we saw @PenceFly accounts swarm and references to horror films with Jeff Goldblum

The Fly

abound.

By far the most successful diversion is that of graphic designer Adam The Creator, who mixed it with the cranberry juice meme Ocean's Spray.

Joe Biden, for his part, tweeted a photo where he wields a fly swatter, inviting Internet users to contribute $ 5 to "fly" his campaign (a play on words in English with "fly").

Pitch in $ 5 to help this campaign fly.

But the master remains Barack Obama, who had shown ninja reflexes to kill a fly with his bare hands in the middle of an interview.

Occupying the White House requires situational awareness.
