A first SLED screen TV soon to be marketed -

Geeko

The Chinese firm Realme, a subsidiary of OPPO, has just unveiled the first television equipped with SLED technology.

Like Samsung's QLED, SLED is Realme's own display technology developed by specialist company SPD Technology.

The promises of this new technology are numerous.

It is supposed to preserve the eyes of the spectators, while offering a wider color spectrum.

Also based on an LCD panel, SLED technology differs from QLED in terms of backlighting.

While the technology developed by Samsung relies on blue LEDs to give vivid and contrasting colors, the SLED uses red, blue and green LEDs which allows more colors to be brighter.

Realme assures that by opting for this LED color combination, its technology covers up to 108% of the NTSC spectrum, namely the color system defined by the National Television System Committee in 1954 for analog television.

A nice performance therefore, even if the Chinese BOE had assured last July to have developed a QLED panel covering 114% of this color spectrum.

Less blue light than QLED displays

Beyond offering a larger sample of colors, the choice to use LEDs of different colors avoids a typical QLED problem;

abundance of blue light.

The latter is the subject of many criticisms since it attacks the eyes.

Realme's technology has thus obtained Eye Comfort certification from the independent body TÜV Rheinland.

The Chinese firm nevertheless remains fairly secret about the technical details of its technology.

Realme has not given more details about how its technology works.

However, we know that the first SLED screen is 4K and that it measures 55 inches.

The latter should be launched during the month of October in India.

We should learn more about him then.
