Ring, an Amazon subsidiary specializing in surveillance cameras, unveiled its latest product to the general public on Thursday, the Always Home Cam (camera always at home, in French).

It is a video surveillance device coupled to a remotely controllable drone.

In its presentation video uploaded to YouTube, the company describes its creation as the “next level of flying indoor security camera”.

The craft is programmed to take off and move independently if the Ring Alarm device to which it is connected detects suspicious activity in the absence of its owner.

In this case, the user can determine the path of the drone in advance so that the camera films key areas of the home.

It is also possible to use the system in a less dramatic context.

Ring promises “peace of mind… at a reasonable cost” to buyers of its Always Home Cam.

The camera that the device is equipped with only fires when the drone is in the air.

Numerous comments left by Internet users following the presentation video nevertheless evoke the potential privacy problems that such a system can cause and say they initially thought it was a joke when they discovered this novelty.
