A former YouTube subcontractor, a video moderator, sued the platform in California.

The complainant claims to have developed post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of her job,

.

From January 2018 to August 2019, she worked in Austin for the Collabera company, a YouTube subcontractor.

She says she has since suffered from panic attacks and severe sleep disturbances.

For her, the videos of beheadings, child pornography, extreme violence and other disturbing images that she had to watch are the cause of these disorders.

Hours of traumatic videos a day

The complainant accuses YouTube of violating California labor law, by failing to provide its employees with a safe working environment.

Due to lack of personnel, moderators must view "between 100 and 300 videos per day with a margin of error ranging from 2 to 5%", describes the American.

Employees are thus exposed to traumatic images for more than four hours a day.

In her complaint, the American therefore requests the payment of her medical treatments, financial compensation and medical monitoring of YouTube content moderators in the future.

Last May, Facebook had reached a financial agreement with several of its moderators who filed a complaint for similar reasons.

These employees had received a total of 52 million dollars, or about 44 million euros.
