Raymond van Barneveld cannot wait to return to professional darts.
The 53-year-old Hagenaar and five-time world champion said goodbye to the sport in December, but is now picking up his arrows again.
"It's very simple. I miss it. I miss it terribly," Van Barneveld told
RTL 7 on
Van Barneveld already announced in November 2018 that he would retire after the last World Cup.
He underperformed in the last years of his career - his last title dates from 2014 - and he also had several private problems, including a divorce.
"I think the decision was the right one, but I have now had a lot of time to think about it. I ended up in a hole and then I realized that I was very wrong," said Van Barneveld.
"I imagine that many people will be surprised by this news, but because I have not been myself for the last two or three years, you don't always make the right decisions. Your head is haunted and you are a nightmare for everyone. But that's different now. I'm looking forward to it and it tickles. "

'Will have to do my best hard'
Van Barneveld is waiting for a tough job to actually make his comeback as a professional darts player.
He then has to conquer a Tour card at the PDC at Q-School in January.
In that case, he can participate in the Players Championships, where he can qualify for the larger tournaments.
"I signed for three years, so we have three years the chance to at least get a Tour card. And that does not happen just like that. If I want to get my Tour card, I will my should do best ", realizes Van Barneveld.
Van Barneveld experienced a dramatic end in December when he was already eliminated in the first round at the World Cup.
He then told afterwards that he will never forgive his defeat and that life has no meaning anymore.
"Then there was a completely different Raymond van Barneveld. One who didn't like it anymore. There were a lot of problems in private and I was stressed", says Van Barneveld nine months later.
"I now get a unique opportunity to realize my dream and to work in a team that includes Jeffrey de Zwaan and my girlfriend Julia. I think that is the solution for me. Julia just thinks in solutions instead of problems. "
