Two men suspected of being involved in two rapes, on a septuagenarian and a 9-year-old girl, are in custody on Tuesday evening.

Back to an investigation which mobilized significant police resources.

The case begins Friday with the rape of a 73-year-old woman near Saumur.

The gendarmes then recovered the report of a stolen car with which the suspect fled.

For this manhunt, the police are deploying great means: around fifty gendarmes were mobilized, as well as a helicopter and police reinforcements.

A second rape, 80 km from the first

They found no trace of the vehicle over the weekend until another rape was reported to them on Sunday evening, 80 km away.

This time, the victim is a 9-year-old girl who was kidnapped in a residential area near Poitiers while she was going to get bread.

Her attacker released her an hour after the incident and fled with the same stolen car seen in the first incident.

This vehicle and the 48-hour proximity between the two crimes lead investigators to deploy numerous investigative resources in three departments.

The police finally found the car near Saumur.

The driver is stopped immediately, his passenger tries to escape on foot but is quickly picked up.

They are both in custody at the gendarmerie.

The DNA comparisons will make it possible to confirm or not the heavy suspicions which weigh on them.
