INTERVIEW

A man was seriously wounded by bullets in front of a nursery school in Marseille shortly before school leaving time on Friday, we learned on Saturday from the marine firefighters and the town hall.

The man, in his thirties, was targeted in front of the nursery school in a popular district of the 16th arrondissement.

After this incident, the municipal councilor Samia Ghali wished to salute the coolness of "the teaching team, the director and the municipal staff".

"During the shots, the director had a very good reflex by confining the children inside the classroom," said a police source.

As for the shooting as such, Samia Ghali believes that it is "dramatic" and "a shame" that it can occur in the second largest city in France.

"We cannot always be on the razor's edge and say 'phew, luckily the children did not go out at that time'," she lamented.

"We play with people's lives"

The elected member also blasted "a lack of police officers always omnipresent".

"We have been suppressed 200 national police officers. I have been asking for reinforcements for years. With two police patrols for all the northern districts, it is impossible to ensure the safety of the inhabitants."

"We play with people's lives," she concluded.

The man's life-threatening prognosis was engaged when help arrived and no child was injured.

The investigation was handed over to the federal police.
