3 audio and video finds at the IFA Berlin electronics fair -

20 Minutes

  • Usually black with people, the aisles of the IFA electronics fair which is held in Berlin from September 3 to 5 are less crowded this year, due to the Covid-19 crisis.

  • Open only to professionals and still in limited numbers, the IFA distributes its information on news to the press through virtual meetings.

  • OLED TV, noise-canceling headphones, state-of-the-art home cinema projectors, "20 Minutes" followed the first announcements and unveils some of the show's novelties.

Due to the coronavirus crisis, the traditional IFA electronics fair in Berlin, which takes place from September 3-5, is not open to the public.

The number of professional visitors is limited, the duration of the exhibition is reduced, as is the number of exhibitors.

The 2020 IFA believed to be largely virtual.

It is therefore difficult to sniff out the high-tech trends of this second half of the year.

Over the course of online press conferences or sometimes 3D meetings, “20 Minutes” has nevertheless selected some flagship products which will soon end up on the shelves for real.

Philips sets the bar for sound in its televisions

While TV sales are igniting with deconfinement (we're talking about a + 50% market!), Philips unveils its OLED935 at IFA.

In 48, 55 and 65 inches (122, 140 and 165 cm diagonally), this Android TV which works with Amazon's Alexa assistant is compatible with HDR10 + and Dolby Vision.

- PHILIPS / TP VISION

It incorporates its own sound bar.

Developed by the British Bowers & Wilkins, this audio section displays a comfortable power of 70 watts and is distinguished by the presence of a central tweeter to better reproduce the dialogues.

Prepare change: 2,199 euros in 48 '' ', 3,000 euros in 55' 'and 3,500 euros in 65' '.

Sony refines the sound of the headphones

Overwhelmingly praised, the Sony 1000XM3 noise canceling headphones launched a year ago made a small… the 1000XM4.

Sold for 380 euros, this wired and noise-canceling Bluetooth headset retains the same speakers and the same sound signature.

A so-called

Speak to Chat function

can now temporarily interrupt music and noise reduction so that the user can take part in a conversation.

Another novelty: the arrival of the

360 Reality Audio system

from Sony.

But this one, which widens the soundstage to 360 °, remains limited to certain musical applications.

Seeming to be distinguished by an exceptional dynamics, an opulent bass volume without being bulky, the 1000XM4 would also know how to rise in the treble with formidable precision.

Its equalizer allows very precise customization.

But obviously, it is its noise reduction system that risks once again beating the competition, including the Bose NCH 700 headphones, the only real competitor to the new master stallion from Sony.

Samsung sees the big picture

With its short throw projector The Premiere, Samsung wants to pamper movie fans at home.

The device, which will be launched in October 2020 for the trifle of 3,500 euros is 4K and capable of displaying an image of 3.05 meters diagonally with only 11 cm of distance.

A real performance that calls into question having a large TV at home.

- SAMSUNG

The Premiere is HDR10 + compatible and has three HDMI 2.0b inputs, ideal for connecting different peripherals, but also works in Wifi and Bluetooth.

Its built-in audio system displays 40 watts of power, which may be a bit light compared to the impressive image it deploys.

LG explodes screen size

Do you also want to build your cinoche in your garage?

With its new 4K CineBeam laser projector (HU810P), LG offers XXL image purists a DLP laser device for dedicated rooms to be installed or hung from the ceiling.

Thanks to it, it is possible to display a gigantic image: up to 7.62 m diagonal!

For a wireless configuration, it can be associated with Wisa compatible speakers.

This is a wireless communication protocol dedicated to home cinema systems which now integrates Dolby Atmos.

The LG projector is relatively discreet (337 x 410 x 145 mm for 11 kg).

It is Bluetooth compatible, with an integrated sound system of 10 watts of power.

Price and launch date not communicated.

Lenovo is on time

The manufacturer is putting his Smart Clock smart alarm clock back on the nightstand with a refreshed version compared to the model launched a few months ago.

Sold for 59.99 euros (and already available) the new Smart Clock Essential has a large LED display whose lighting intensity adapts to the ambient light.

- LENOVO

Compatible with Google Assistant, the device can be programmed by voice and start routines with other compatible equipment: it is 7 a.m., it rings, starts the connected coffee maker, opens the shutters, tells you the travel time to get to the work, etc.

A white halo of light on the back turns it into a nightlight, while a jack allows it to connect a cable to charge its smartphone.

JBL celebrates outside the walls

The brand (owned by Samsung) declines its party box party concept in a nomadic version simply called “On the Go”.

The Party Box On The Go: up to 6 hours of battery life and 100 watts of power over the shoulder.

- JBL

Wearing over the shoulder (we do not know the weight) and capable of sending up to 100 watts of power in stereo, the device sold for 299 euros (the price of a mid-range smartphone) would, according to its manufacturer, offer an autonomy that can reach 6 hours.

Splash resistant (IPX4 standard), the Party Box On the Go displays light effects that it synchronizes with the music.

It comes with a wireless microphone and has a guitar input.

Teufel emits good waves

The German manufacturer is launching its 3Sixty, a radio with a neo-vintage look that surfs on different technologies, old and new.

And thus wants to be complete.

FM, the receiver is also DAB + and acts as a digital terrestrial radio.

Better: the 3Sixty integrates direct access to Amazon Music and Spotify Premium and the device is obviously Bluetooth.

The 3Sixty radio embraces FM, DAB +, Bluetooth and integrates Amazon Music and Spotify.

- TEUFEL

60 presets (including 30 for Amazon Music and Spotify) allow access to favorite stations, playlists or webradios.

This beautiful versatility can be listened to at 360 ° thanks to the device's two full-range speakers and a 90 mm subwoofer directed downwards.

The physical buttons of the radio and an application are there to control the whole.

Alternative: an Alexa device which will be able to take control of the 3Sixty thanks to the voice command.

Promising but quite expensive: 299 euros.
