Take a masked selfie before getting in an Uber?

This is already an obligation for drivers and it will soon become so for customers by the end of September in the United States and Canada, reports

Presse-Citron

.

Since last May and the start of the coronavirus pandemic, drivers have to take their picture, masked, and send the picture to Uber before starting their work day.

But now more is needed to ensure the safety of all, explains Uber in a post published on Tuesday.

Wearing a mask helps protect each other, that's why we're asking riders to verify they are wearing a mask by taking a selfie, just like their driver.

The measure will only target certain users, already reported by a driver for not having worn a mask in the vehicle.

These will have to prove that they are well masked before a race, otherwise they will not be able to book a race on the application.

After the United States and Canada, the measure will be extended to Latin America and then to other countries.

Nothing has yet been communicated concerning Europe and France.

For their part, customers can already cancel a trip free of charge if the driver is not wearing a mask.

Uber specifies that the tool set up to analyze the photos will just verify the presence of the mask without collecting other information.

Since Uber drivers and deliverers have to prove the mask wearing by a photo, more than 100 million checks have taken place, finally says the ticket.
