  • Scam: the new Internet fraud with which your credit card is emptied without you noticing

The Internet User Security Office (dependent on the Ministry of Economy) has warned about a new fraud campaign that uses false promotions of products and services

online

for the modest amount of two euros.

However, these are not legitimate offers, but rather an illegal campaign that

seeks to seize the data and credit card of its victims

.

Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, mobile phones, Addidas sports, PlayStation 5 consoles, televisions, cleaning products and even cars are some of the products offered in this type of campaign, which has been recorded by the Internet Security Office, with

the hook of the two euros

.

The emails

pretend to be legitimate promotions

or offers similar to the

retargeting

used in

e-

commerce

through email.

However, although in some cases it is a ruse with a fairly successful interface, the first indication that it is fraudulent emails is found in

the sender's address,

which does not correspond to legitimate company or online store accounts.

One way to identify these frauds is that the criminals target "the user using the email address instead of their name or surname," they explain from the Internet User Security office.

Also, "the address from which the emails are sent

is not a domain that belongs to the service

, although it does use its logo".

The body of the message uses as a hook

a brand image and a typeface

that resembles the company to be impersonated accompanied by a link.

If the link is clicked, the user will find a website that he tries to copy the real service (although his web address will not be the same).

Once inside, the user is required to respond to a survey and then a screen is shown with a form (apparently standard) in which they are asked for their first name, last name, address, postal code, email,

credit card number and cvv

as if it were a legitimate purchase.

"Remember that

nobody gives anything away

and that behind a promotion of these characteristics, there is usually some kind of fraud," says the Internet User Security Office.
